- What is CIMB ASEAN Stock Challenge?
The CIMB ASEAN Stock Challenge is a cross-border simulation stock trading platform designed to test students' market knowledge and investment strategy in a real-time environment. You can trade on five major stock exchanges, namely the Bursa Malaysia, Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), Singapore Exchange (SGX), The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) and The Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEx). No previous experience of the stock market is necessary.
- Why should I join?
This Challenge provides you an avenue to put into practice what you have learnt or are interested in, to trade real-time on any of ASEAN stock exchanges. Not only will you get a taste of real -life trading environment by buying and selling shares, you will also stand to win an all-expense-paid trip to Tokyo Stock Exchange, cash prizes totaling US$38,000, internship opportunities and a certificate of achievement.

- Who can participate?
The Challenge is open to undergraduates studying in universities in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia and Brunei aged between 18 and 25. Fresh graduates who completed their studies in 2017 are also welcome to join this Challenge.
- Do we have to pay anything?
Absolutely not! Participating in this Challenge is free of charge. In fact, you will be given a virtual capital of USD80,000 to play this game.
- When does it start?
Registration will be open for two weeks from 18 to 29 September 2017. The actual trading competition will run for 3 weeks from 9 to 27 October 2017.
- How do I join the Challenge?
Easy-peasy! Just follow the simple steps below:
- Form a team of 2 to 3 members from the SAME university.
- Go to https://stockchallenge.itradecimb.com and click on the Sign Up button.
- Make sure you key-in your team members' details correctly before you click the submit button.
- I'm interested to participate but my university is not listed. What do I do?
If your university is not listed, please contact your respective country support teams.
- I am an international student, am I eligible to participate?
International students who are studying in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia and Brunei are eligible to participate as long as you are aged between 18 to 25 years old.
- I am a postgraduate student, am I still eligible to participate?
The Challenge is only open to undergraduate students in order to provide the same level playing field for all participants.
- My team members and I are from different universities. Are we still eligible to participate?
To be eligible, all teams MUST consist of members from the SAME university. Teams will be disqualified if the members are found to be from different universities.
- I participated in the Challenge last year. Can I participate again this year?
Yes, you can but members of the top three teams at the national level of the previous years are not allowed to participate in this year's competition.
- Can I join more than one team?
Students can only join one team. Participants who breach this condition will automatically be disqualified from the Challenge.
- Are there any tutorials for a first timer?
Yes, we have an Online Trading Platform Userguide to help you familiarise with the system.
- Can everyone in the team trade?
Only the Team Leader is given the access rights to trade. The rest of the team members can access but cannot trade. An error message - "order submission not allowed" will appear on your screen if you try to execute a trade.
- Are the prices real-time?
Yes, the stock price quotations are real-time.
- Is there a mobile trading app offered in the Challenge?
Yes we do have mobile trading app for Android, iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The supported OS versions for Android are Android 4.2 & above and iOS are IOS 8.0 or later.
- What are the features available in the mobile trading app?
Amongst the features available include real-time streaming quotes, watch list, charting, buy and sell and stock alert.
- Would I be able to access to the mobile app after the competition has ended?
The availability of the Mobile App will be the same as the web platform. They will be accessible until the competition ends (after the grand finale)
- Will there be any brokerage fees charged for every transaction?
Yes, the brokerage fees are the same as the real life trading and it will be charged for every matched trade.

- What are the trading hours?
The trading hours vary depending on the stock exchanges as listed below:

- Can I place an order after market close?
No, you can only place orders during the trading hours of the various ASEAN Exchanges.
- Will I get any certificate for participating in this Challenge?
We will give certificates of achievement only to the top performing teams in recognition of their achievement and acumen in trading.
- What do I do if I forget my password?
You can use the "Forgot Password" function on the login page. Click the link and a pop-up box will appear. A new password will be sent to the email address you provided earlier during registration.
- How do I change my password?
Log into your account and select the "Change Password" option under "My Profile". Enter your old password, then enter your new password, confirm the new password and click on the submit button and your password is now changed. Also note that the username and password are case sensitive.
- I have already registered but would like to change my account details e.g add or remove team member(s), what do I do?
The only variable you can change from your account is your password. In order to change other details please contact your respective country support team.
- Why is my account suspended?
Your account will be suspended if you enter the wrong login username or password more than 3 times. If you face this problem, please contact your respective country support team and provide us your team name via email for reactivation.
- Will there be team rankings display?
Yes, we will display team rankings every 3 working days.
- How will the teams be ranked and based on what?
The teams will be ranked based on the highest returns on investment (%) during the duration of the competition.
- How do you calculate the returns on investment (%)?
Each team's performance will be ranked based on the percentage gain/loss of the team's portfolio. Percentage gain/loss refers to the summation of your team's available buy limit (cash on hand) and the end-of-day value of your portfolio divided by your initial capital. The following example will show how we calculate the returns on investment (% gain/loss).Example:Team A has S$80,000 capital.Team A bought 5,000 shares of SGX at S$8.00. Cost of shares is S$40,000.Transaction cost is S$138.03, which includes commission, clearing fees, access fee and GST.Available buy limit = Capital deduct cost of shares and transaction cost= S$80,000 - S$40,000 - S$138.03= S$39,861.97Assuming SGX shares closed at S$8.20Team A's total holdings = Available buy limit + stock portfolio= S$39,861.97 + (5,000 shares x S$8.20)= S$39,861.97 + S$41,000= S$80,861.97Team A's percentage gain = Total holding / initial capital= ([S$80,861.97 / S$80,000] - 1) x 100%= 1.0775%Team B has S$80,000 capital.Team B bought 3,000 shares of DBS at S$15.00. Cost of shares is S$45,000.Transaction cost is S$155.28, which includes commission, clearing fees, access fee and GST.Available buy limit = Capital deduct cost of shares and transaction cost= S$80,000 - S$45,000 - S$155.28= S$34,844.72Assuming DBS shares closed at S$14.00Team B's total holdings = Available buy limit + stock portfolio= S$34,844.72 + (3,000 shares x S$14.00)= S$34,844.72 + S$42,000= S$76,844.72Team B's percentage loss = Total holding / initial capital= ([S$76,844.72 / S$80,000] - 1) x 100%= -3.9441%
- With the "Performance of Post-Game Portfolio" judging criteria for the Grand Finale, do l liquidate my portfolio at the end of the game period?
No, you should not liquidate your portfolio at the end of the game period. The remaining stocks in your portfolio will be deemed investment stocks and be used in the Post-Game Portfolio to evaluate the performance of the stocks on the last trading day before the Grand Finale.
- How do you calculate team's post-game portfolio performance?
The performance of the stocks in the Post-Game Portfolio will be evaluated until the last trading day before the Grand Finale. The returns on investment (%) in the Post-Game Portfolio will be taken into the score in the Grand Finale.
Method of calculation:
[(Cash on hand + Market Value of Shares in portfolio on last trading day before the grand finale)/Cash at the beginning of game]
